North Burma Christian Mission

North Burma Christian Mission is an organization with a rich history. It's history began in 1921 with the migration of  J. Russell and Gertrude Morse to China. The couple's dream to serve Christ. They faithfully ministered to the Lisu people (a hill tribe of South East Asia).  In 1949, the Morse family, were forced to migrate to Burma due to the China's political change to communism. In Burma the family continued to work with the Lisu and other hill tribes people by preaching the gospel.

Still later the Morse family underwent more opposition to the work when in 1962 the Burmese government shifted to a socialist model. Not long after the Morse's were asked to leave Burma. The decision to leave Burma was complicated by the multi generational family which included both ethnic hill tribes and American members. Therefore, a simple exit from Burma was impossible. After trying to walk to India seeking to pursue ministry there the Mores's were surprised when the request to enter India was denied. This then forced the family and their Lisu friends to exit into an area of Burma known as the Hidden Valley. A largely untouched area of Northern Burma. There they continued to minister until the mid 70's when the mission was relocated to Thailand where it remains to this day.

The Silkwood family was adopted into the Morse family in the early 1980's when Tom Silkwood joined the mission after meeting Tom Morse in Bible College at Lincoln Christian College. Tom and Gayle Silkwood went on to begin the Multi Media ministry of North Burma Christian Mission called Freedom Films Productions.

We are Jeff and Mary Silkwood, son and daughter-in-law to Tom and Gayle and we have been called to carry on the ministry now to the Thai people. Teaching and preaching to the people that God has placed us amongst.
